Matthew Asano, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist with advanced fellowship training in the medical and surgical treatments of diseases affecting the macula, retina, and vitreous.  He also has an interest in the diagnosis and management of ocular inflammatory diseases.

He is a graduate of Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania and continued at Harvard University Extension School in Cambridge, Massachusetts for his pre-medical courses.  He received his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2011.  Dr. Asano completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Cook County Health and Hospital System in Chicago, Illinois, where he was selected Chief Resident in 2015 and also received the Phillip B. Dray Outstanding Resident Award. He then completed a 2-year surgical and medical retina fellowship in 2017 at Boston University School of Medicine and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Asano is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Asano enjoys spending time with his wife, Trilby, and daughter.  He is an avid skier, bicyclist, and hiker.
